CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, IL (Chambana Today) – Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 7 will be conducting Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols throughout Champaign County during April. These patrols are designed to detect and respond to violations related to impaired driving, as well as illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol and drugs.
With impaired driving contributing to over 47% of all fatal crashes in Illinois, the ISP has a zero-tolerance policy for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Officers will be on the lookout for motorists exhibiting signs of impairment, unsafe driving behavior, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and illegal transportation of open alcoholic beverages. They will also be vigilant for violations related to seatbelt and child restraint usage, distracted driving, and other vehicle code infractions.
In the United States, an alcohol-related traffic fatality occurs every 39 minutes, highlighting the importance of this initiative. The ACE program enables ISP officers to intensify their efforts in removing dangerous DUI offenders from the roads. The project is funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
