SAINT JOSEPH (Chambana Today) – The village of St. Joseph will pay tribute to fallen Illinois State Trooper and local hero Corey Thompsen by naming Peters Drive in his honor. Thompsen, who tragically died in an on-duty motorcycle crash in October, will be forever remembered through the street designation. The suggestion to dedicate a street to Thompsen came from Timbra Hilton, a teacher at St. Joseph Middle School, who had taught Thompsen 15 years ago.
In addition to the street sign designations at both ends of Peters Drive, Hilton suggested to place a sign in front of the middle school to ensure future generations remember the sacrifice Thompsen made.
The board voted in favor of the motion, and a resolution to officially approve the street naming will be passed at the next village meeting on March 25.
