VERMILION COUNTY, IL (Chambana Today) – The Illinois State Police have released further details about a deadly crash that occurred on I-74 in Vermilion County, confirming that one person died as a result of the incident.

Officials reported that the crash, which took place in the eastbound lanes, involved four vehicles — three semi-trucks and an SUV. According to the investigation, traffic had slowed due to a previous crash when one of the semi-trucks failed to slow down and initiated the chain collision. The semi-truck rear-ended the SUV in the right lane, pushing it into the back of another semi. After hitting the SUV, the semi swerved into the left lane and collided with a third semi before veering off the highway and into the median.

The driver of the SUV, a 56-year-old man from Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported from the other vehicles involved.
