RANTOUL, IL (Chambana Today) – A large fight broke out at Lincoln’s ChalleNGe Academy in Rantoul on Wednesday evening, resulting in the arrest of two 18-year-olds. The incident, involving 70 to 80 cadets, is currently under investigation by the State’s Attorney and the Rantoul Police Department. The arrested individuals were booked into the Champaign County Jail on Thursday and could face charges of aggravated battery and mob action.

Champaign County State’s Attorney Julia Rietz also stated that three juveniles may face charges, one of whom is still in the hospital.

Lincoln’s ChalleNGe Academy, in operation since 1993, has helped over 22,000 youth overcome personal challenges. Many of its graduates have gone on to serve in the military, pursue higher education, or enter vocational programs. While the academy remains focused on the safety and security of both the cadets and the surrounding community, staff are reviewing how they can improve and prevent such incidents in the future.

The investigation remains ongoing as the State’s Attorney and Rantoul Police continue to discuss the next steps in the case. The Chambana Today newsroom reached out to the Lincoln’s ChalleNGe Academy but has not yet received a statement.
