GIBSON CITY, IL (Chambana Today) – The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley (GCMS) Board of Education took action on Thursday, April 3rd, adopting a resolution that placed GCMS Middle School teacher and coach Robert Dinkins on paid administrative leave. This decision comes as two open investigations into alleged misconduct are ongoing.
The resolution, which passed with a unanimous 7-0 vote, emphasizes that the district is unable to disclose further details at this time due to the ongoing legal processes involved. The statement issued by the district’s superintendent, Jeremy Darnell, acknowledges the emotional impact on students, staff, and community members, noting that “children and adults are hurting, scared, sad, and angry,” and it respects that everyone is entitled to their own feelings based on personal experiences.
Because of the sensitive nature of the investigations, the district will not release further information in order to protect the rights and privacy of all individuals involved. However, GCMS has assured families that new information or any developments regarding the situation will be shared as they become available.
In the meantime, students and athletes who may be directly impacted by the situation will receive further details regarding alternative teachers and coaches in the coming days.
Darnell expressed his apologies for the unsettling situation. “We will continue to work to ensure the safety and well-being of our students every day,” he said in a statement. He also encouraged families to reach out to school administration for support during this challenging time.
