URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – After years of delays, the former Urbana-Lincoln and Landmark Hotel is finally set to reopen as Hotel Royer. Haaris Pervaiz, a partner with Icon Hospitality, confirmed the anticipated soft opening date for the hotel is April 16.

The hotel, which has undergone extensive renovations, has now received its final certificate of occupancy. Mayor Diane Marlin announced that the certificate was issued on April 15, marking a major milestone for the project. The hotel also received its public health permit late last week.

The opening of Hotel Royer has been highly anticipated, especially after several delays. The city of Urbana had extended the hotel’s deadline to meet occupancy requirements multiple times, with the most recent extension given in February 2024, pushing the deadline to December 31, 2024. The extension also included a penalty clause—$150,000 would be deducted from the city’s $5.5 million incentive for every three-month period the project was delayed beyond that date. As of April 1, the maximum reimbursement amount has been reduced to $5.2 million.

Hotel Royer’s liquor license application will be reviewed at the next City Council meeting.
