CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The City of Champaign has launched a new recycling collection method in partnership with a newly selected vendor to improve efficiency and streamline the recycling process for residents. The City appreciates the community’s feedback and patience as it transitions to this modernized system.

Key updates for residents include the recommendation to place recycling bins out the night before collection day to avoid missing the truck. The collection truck now drives down each side of the street, which may mean it passes on one side and comes back to collect from the other side.

In addition, open-top bins will be collected by a separate truck that does not use the mechanical arm. Residents currently using open-top bins are encouraged to contact the City to be added to the list for a free replacement with a flip-top, two-wheeled recycling cart.

To ensure an efficient collection, residents are asked to place their recycling cart near the curb, facing the street, and at least four feet away from any obstructions. The City also reminds residents that all materials should be placed inside the cart, with any extra cardboard placed next to the cart and reduced to a three-foot by three-foot size.

For more information on what materials are accepted for recycling, residents can visit the City’s website at www.urbanail.gov/public-works/page/acceptable-recyclables. Residents with questions are encouraged to contact U-Cycle at 217-384-2342.
