CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign School Board was forced to cancel its regularly scheduled Monday night meeting after three members—Mark Holm, Betsy Holder, and Amy Armstrong—announced they would be absent, leaving the board without a quorum.

Key agenda items included confirming principal appointments at Edison Middle School and Booker T. Washington Academy, as well as school resource officer positions at Central and Centennial High Schools. The board needs at least four members present to conduct official business.

Board President Gianina Baker expressed frustration in a statement on Facebook: “By not being able to meet tonight and not being able to find another date to meet at the time, we’re holding people’s careers up. This is not what’s in the best interests of our students.”

Betsy Holder stated she had notified the district ahead of time, due to a work conflict. “If the district was aware of a quorum issue, they had multiple opportunities to reschedule before posting the agenda on Friday.” Mark Holm cited a pre-arranged business meeting.

The election results for the five incoming board members are set to be certified Tonight. The board must swear them in by May 11. The next scheduled meeting is April 28.
