CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Illinois State Police (ISP) announced Distracted Driving Enforcement Program patrols.

What is Distracted Driving?

Distracted driving refers to engaging in activities that divert a driver’s attention from the road. These distractions significantly increase the risk of a crash. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):

  • Over 3,000 people are killed each year in crashes involving distracted driving.

  • Reading a text message can take a driver’s eyes off the road for an average of five seconds.

  • Nearly 1 in 10 injury crashes involve a distracted driver.
