URBANA TOWNSHIP (Chambana Today) – A 51-year-old man is in custody following a stabbing that occurred during a domestic dispute Sunday evening in Urbana Township.
At approximately 8:01 p.m. on May 4, Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing at a residence on Gurth Drive. The call was made by a third party on behalf of the victim.
Deputies arrived to find a 54-year-old woman suffering from stab wounds. Authorities say the incident stemmed from a domestic altercation involving the victim’s husband, Rafael Magdaleno-Mendoza. The victim was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.
Magdaleno-Mendoza was arrested at the scene without incident and is facing preliminary charges of Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery, and Aggravated Domestic Battery. He remains in custody at the Champaign County Jail pending his initial court appearance scheduled for the afternoon of May 5.
