DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) – On the evening of May 9, 2025, at approximately 5:57 PM, Danville Police Department (DPD) officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 200 block of Grace Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 32-year-old woman lying in the front yard of a residence, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
Witnesses at the scene reported hearing gunshots and seeing a man standing over the victim while holding a handgun. The man reportedly entered the residence immediately after the shooting and was not seen again.
Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, but after receiving no response, the Danville Police Emergency Response Unit (ERU) was deployed. Upon entering the home, ERU members located a 60-year-old Danville man deceased inside, appearing to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The identities of both deceased individuals are being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin by the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office. The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit and the Coroner’s Office are assisting Danville Police in the ongoing investigation.
