URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The City of Urbana invites residents to a Public Open House on Wednesday, May 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. in City Council Chambers at 400 S. Vine Street to review and comment on the revised draft of the Imagine Urbana Comprehensive Plan. This open house offers a final in-person opportunity for public input before the Plan is potentially approved.

Imagine Urbana, a long-range planning document designed to guide Urbana’s policy, infrastructure, and development decisions for the next 20 years, has undergone an extensive community review since its first draft was released in August 2024. Feedback was collected through neighborhood meetings, City commission sessions, public hearings, and online comments.

The Urbana Plan Commission revised the plan based on public input and recommended its approval on April 10, 2025. Since then, the City Council’s Committee of the Whole has continued reviewing and modifying the plan, guided by additional resident feedback.

Mayor DeShawn Williams emphasized the plan’s importance and the need for public clarity. This Open House will allow residents to examine the Plan’s maps — the blueprint for Urbana’s future — and ask questions of City staff. Our goal is to address any concerns, build trust in the plan, and move toward final approval.”

Andrea Ruedi, Urbana’s Senior Director for Integrated Strategy Development, encourages residents to explore the revised plan at online.encodeplus.com/regs/urbana-il/. PDF or printed versions are available by request at ImagineUrbana@UrbanaIL.gov or by calling 217-384-2316.

Feedback gathered at the open house will be reviewed at the next Committee of the Whole meeting on June 2 at 7 p.m., where a recommendation for final City Council approval will be considered.
