CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, IL (Chambana Today) – Sheriff Dustin Heuerman has released the results of a Memorial Day weekend traffic enforcement detail conducted by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, focusing on seat belt use and impaired driving prevention. The initiative was part of the statewide “Click It or Ticket” campaign supported by federal highway safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
During the detail, deputies conducted 12 traffic stops, which resulted in 13 citations being issued. The effort also led to one arrest for Aggravated DUI and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Sheriff Heuerman emphasized the importance of responsible driving during holiday weekends and beyond. “The privilege of operating a motor vehicle requires full and unimpaired attention to ensure safe operation of that vehicle,” he said. “Get a designated driver if your plans include possible intoxication, don’t violate speed limits or drive recklessly, don’t text and drive, and always buckle up.”
The sheriff’s office will continue participating in safety campaigns and enforcement efforts aimed at reducing traffic injuries and fatalities in the county. The Memorial Day detail reflects ongoing efforts to make local roads safer for all drivers and passengers.
