SPRINGFIELD, IL (Chambana Today) – Whether you’re a seasoned angler or picking up a fishing rod for the first time, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is making it easy to enjoy the sport this summer. From June 13 to 16, residents and visitors can fish for free anywhere in Illinois—no license, inland trout stamp, or salmon stamp required.
The free fishing days aim to encourage new and returning anglers to experience the outdoors and share the joys of fishing with children, families, and friends. Organizations or groups in need of fishing equipment or educational materials can request them via an online form on the IDNR website, while supplies last.
Outside of this special four-day event, Illinois law requires most people aged 16 and older to carry a fishing license. Exceptions are available for active-duty military members and people with qualifying disabilities. Annual licenses cost $15 and are available at authorized vendors or online at ifishillinois.org.
