URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – Six first responders were recognized with EMS awards by the Urbana Fire Department for their life-saving efforts during a cardiac arrest call in April.
The incident occurred on April 1 around 10:30 p.m., when Engine 252 and Medic 225 responded to a man in cardiac arrest. Deputies from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office were already performing CPR when crews arrived. Urbana firefighters quickly deployed a cardiac monitor, delivered a shock, and applied a LUCAS device for automated chest compressions.
Medic 225 joined to assist with advanced cardiac life support. After extensive resuscitation efforts, the patient regained spontaneous circulation and was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital.
Award recipients include Lt. Josh Ingold, Austin Upton, and Nick Walker from Engine 252; Medics Calvin Larrison and Chris Brown from Medic 225; and Deputy Derek Rasmussen of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
The Urbana Fire Department credited swift action and strong teamwork for the successful outcome.
