URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – In celebration of Juneteenth 2025, the City of Urbana Office of Human Rights and Equity and the Juneteenth 2025 Committee culminate a rich lineup of community-centered events honoring the history, legacy, and ongoing pursuit of Black liberation in the United States.
On Wednesday, June 18, enjoy the Juneteenth Education & Panel Series, “Understanding Juneteenth: History, Liberation, and Legacy.” The event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Urbana Park District’s Health & Wellness Center (2002 E. Washington St.). This half-day event includes:
- 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.: Presentations on the origin of Juneteenth in 1865 and local Black history.
- 3 p.m.: Family-friendly interactive workshops encouraging learning across generations.
- 4 p.m.: A panel discussion titled “This Legacy: Effective Communicators Required,” focused on navigating today’s conversations about race, freedom, and remembrance.
