HOMER, IL (Chambana Today) – The Prairie Dragon Paddlers, a vibrant team of local breast cancer survivors, will host a special Friends & Family Day at Homer Lake on Sunday, June 29, from 1 to 4 p.m. The community is warmly invited to join in an afternoon of celebration, awareness, and paddling on the water.
The event will showcase the team’s brand-new dragon boat, offer attendees the chance to watch a live race, and even paddle alongside team members. Local food and ice cream vendors will also be on site to round out the festivities.
Founded by and for breast cancer survivors, the Prairie Dragon Paddlers inspire hope, promote physical wellness, and foster camaraderie through the ancient sport of dragon boat racing. The team’s mission includes raising breast cancer awareness, supporting groundbreaking research, and empowering survivors through community and sport.
Donations will be accepted at the event and will go toward continuing the group’s work in awareness, advocacy, and survivor empowerment.
