PESOTUM, IL (Chambana Today) – The Illinois State Police (ISP) announced the results of their Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols (OREP) conducted in Macon County during June, with a strong focus on promoting seat belt use and saving lives.
According to Troop 7 Commander Heather Apperson, officers issued a total of 46 citations, including 35 for seat belt violations. No child restraint citations were issued, and six written warnings were also given during the patrols.
OREP provides extra patrol coverage, allowing ISP to focus specifically on occupant safety. The initiative targets drivers and passengers who neglect to wear seat belts or fail to properly secure children, despite well-known risks.
“Most motorists know safety belts save lives, but some continue to put themselves and others at risk,” said Commander Apperson. “These patrols are a critical reminder that simply buckling up can make all the difference.”
The effort was funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of its ongoing mission to improve road safety statewide.
