DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) – A 17-year-old juvenile is facing multiple serious charges after being arrested Wednesday afternoon, July 2, 2025, in connection with a firearm-related incident in Danville.
According to the Danville Police Department, the arrest occurred around 4:00 p.m. near the intersection of Martin and Norman Streets. A member of the Community Housing Unit, with assistance from the Problem-Oriented Policing Unit and the Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group, observed the teen walking suspiciously in the middle of the roadway — a violation of pedestrian laws.
Upon stopping the suspect, officers discovered a loaded firearm in his possession. Further investigation revealed that the weapon was a machine gun. The juvenile was taken into custody without incident.
He has been charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Possession of a Machine Gun, Possession of a Firearm Under the Age of 21, and Obstructing a Peace Officer. The teen was transported to the Vermilion County Juvenile Detention Center and is currently being held pending a court hearing.
The Danville Police Department emphasized that all individuals arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
