URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – Two men have been arrested in separate incidents this month after Urbana police say both were found in possession of firearms despite being convicted felons.

The first arrest took place on July 3 but was only publicly announced this week. According to Urbana police, officers stopped a suspicious vehicle near Hunter Street and Lierman Avenue and found open alcohol inside and a firearm hidden under the driver’s seat. The 26-year-old Urbana man was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and for two outstanding warrants. He also received citations for driving with an open alcohol container and on a suspended license.

The second arrest occurred around 1:21 a.m. on Monday, July 21, after officers responded to a report of a man brandishing a gun on Hill Street. Urbana police and Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies detained a 45-year-old Urbana man and discovered a firearm partially concealed beneath him. He was arrested and booked into jail, though specific charges have not yet been disclosed.

Police have not released the names of either individual.
