URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Urbana School District will celebrate the grand opening of its new Sixth Grade Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, August 8, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., marking a major milestone in the district’s efforts to expand educational facilities and improve learning environments for students.
The event, open to students, families, and staff, will include remarks from school leaders and special activities for students following the official ribbon cutting. The new center was designed to give sixth-grade students a dedicated space to learn and grow as they transition from elementary to middle school.
“This is more than just a new building — it represents our commitment to providing a supportive and developmentally appropriate space for our sixth-grade students,” said a district spokesperson. “We’re excited to welcome the community into this new chapter.”
In addition to Friday’s celebration, the public is invited to tour the facility during a Community Open House on Monday, August 11, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Residents can explore classrooms, meet staff, and see firsthand the features designed with student success in mind.
The Sixth Grade Center aims to foster both academic achievement and social development by offering age-specific resources, a focused curriculum, and a supportive atmosphere tailored to this pivotal school year.
