CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – A 19-year-old Champaign man is recovering in the hospital after a late-night shooting on the city’s north end.
Champaign Police responded at 11:51 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, to the 4000 block of Balmoral Drive following reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found signs of a shooting, including damage to multiple homes. Not long after, the victim arrived at a local hospital by personal transport and began receiving treatment for multiple gunshot wounds.
Police say the man is in stable condition and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Initial details are limited. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots during what is believed to be an exchange of gunfire, but no suspects have been identified. Investigators with the Champaign Police Crime Scene Unit processed the area through the early morning hours, collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage.
Police are urging nearby residents or businesses with exterior security cameras to contact them. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active.
