CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – A man has pleaded guilty in connection with a deadly shooting that took the lives of two teenagers during a pop-up party in Champaign last summer.
Corey Butler, 22, entered a guilty plea to one count of first-degree murder as part of a deal that saw nine other murder charges and a firearms charge dismissed. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
The shooting happened in July of last year in the area of Cynthia and Anita Drives, where police responded to reports of gunfire in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Four people were shot. Among them, 18-year-olds George Dorris-Rodgers and Daniyjah Staple died from their injuries.
