SPRINGIELD, IL (Chambana Today) – State Treasurer Michael Frerichs has revealed the winners of the 2025 Cream of the Crop Photography Contest, celebrating young Illinois photographers aged 8 to 18 who creatively showcased the state’s rich agricultural heritage. The top nine students earned Bright Start 529 college savings scholarships, ranging from $250 to $1,000, awarded across three age groups.
“This contest highlights the beauty and diversity of Illinois agriculture through the eyes of our youth,” said Treasurer Frerichs. The winning photographs will be on display during the Illinois State Fair from August 7-17 in the Treasurer’s Tent. Additionally, the top photos will be featured in the 2025-2026 Ag Invest calendar and the first-place images will be exhibited at the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office in Springfield.
The contest drew 205 entries from across the state and was judged by banking and agricultural professionals. Winners include Jerry F. from Springfield, John G. from Stillman Valley, and Ryan L. from Villa Grove, who took first place in their respective age categories.
The Cream of the Crop contest is part of the Illinois State Treasurer’s Ag Invest program, which supports Illinois farmers and agri-businesses through loan opportunities and investment programs.
First-place winners are invited to a reception on August 8, Agriculture Day, at the State Fair.
