CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – In honor of National Breastfeeding Month, the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is kicking off its fourth annual Breastfeeding Supplies Drive starting August 1. This year also marks the launch of Milk Moments, a new monthly lactation support group hosted at the Champaign Public Library to help local breastfeeding and chestfeeding families find connection and community.
The Breastfeeding Supplies Drive will run through August, collecting essential items like nursing pads, pillows, breast milk storage bags, and new breast pumps and accessories. Donations will benefit participants in the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program, which supports expectant and new parents with education and encouragement to meet their individual feeding goals.
In-person donations can be dropped off at three locations: CUPHD’s Champaign and Rantoul offices, and the Orchard Downs Clinic in Urbana. An Amazon Wish List has also been created for virtual donations that can be shipped directly to CUPHD.
As part of community outreach, CUPHD counselors will host a booth at the Urbana Farmers Market on Saturday, August 9, offering games, giveaways, and a welcoming Lactation Station with fans, rocking chairs, and cold water for feeding families.
The Milk Moments support group will meet on the second Monday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m., with October’s meeting rescheduled for October 6 due to a holiday. The group is open to all families looking for breastfeeding guidance or peer support.
