DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) – A high-speed police chase in Danville early Friday morning ended in a crash and the arrest of two individuals, including a juvenile.
According to the Danville Police Department, an officer observed a vehicle driving without headlights and failing to stop at a stop sign around 12:36 a.m. on August 1, near Fairchild and Griffin Streets. A traffic stop was initiated near Griffin Street and Knox Drive, but as the officer approached the stopped vehicle, the driver fled at speeds exceeding 95 miles per hour in a 30 MPH zone.
The pursuit ended when the fleeing vehicle lost control while crossing train tracks near Williams and Short Streets and crashed. Two occupants fled the scene on foot but were apprehended shortly afterward.
One suspect, identified as 28-year-old Carvell Thomas of Gary, Indiana, was treated by medical staff and then booked into the Vermilion County Jail. He faces preliminary charges of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Criminal Damage to Property over $500, and Obstructing/Resisting a Peace Officer.
The second occupant, a 15-year-old juvenile from Chicago, was also charged with Obstructing/Resisting a Peace Officer and later released to a family member.
