CHAMPAIGN, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY)– The City is delighted to announce the unveiling of the official logo for the downtown entertainment district, dubbed “The Beat.” Presented during a Council study session on May 7, 2024, The Beat encompasses the entirety of the downtown entertainment area. With a diverse range of entertainers and programs, The Beat offers the community a chance to experience the vibrancy of downtown to the fullest.

Staff members have been actively promoting The Beat by organizing events throughout downtown and encouraging potential collaborators to join in. With just a few weeks left until its launch, The Beat stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of the entire city. Various departments, including the City Manager’s Office, Finance, Fire, Equity & Engagement, Police, IT, Legal, Planning, and Public Works, have worked together to ensure the success of this pilot project.

Notable contributions include the City Manager’s Office shaping the district’s vision, Public Works coordinating with vendors to complete Market Street’s structural improvements, the Planning Department creating a live entertainment grant program to support downtown performances, and Equity & Engagement leading The Beat’s branding efforts. The collective dedication of staff from nearly every department has made this endeavor possible. Stay tuned for updates as The Beat continues to evolve and flourish!
