CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The City of Champaign is hosting a volunteer clean up event later this fall as part of a nationally recognized day in effort to promote and celebrate recycling nationwide.

America Recycles Day at Boneyard Creek Litter Clean-Up Event will be held next month. America Recycles Day is a program of Keep America Beautiful. Affiliate communities of Keep America Beautiful host events tailored to their unique needs, and Champaign’s will be held in Boneyard Creek.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, October 25th, and will be held at the north end of the North First Street Parking Lot next to Prosperity Gardens at 302 North First Street in Champaign. Free pizza will be served immediately afterwards.

It is requested that volunteers pre-register beforehand at champaignil.gov/public-works/recycling/america-recycles-day.

Volunteers will need to sign a waiver upon arrival. Gloves, buckets, pick-up sticks, trash and recycling bags, and safety vests will be provided. Free reusable canvas bags and t-shirts will also be distributed to volunteers. Additionally, a free pizza lunch will be provided immediately following the clean-up.
