MARION COUNTY, Ill. (Chambana Today) — While youth deer hunters across the state set a new record for the season, one area county was named as one of the top in the state.

Statewide, Illinois youth deer hunters harvested a preliminary total of 4,714 deer from October 11-13, a jump from the 4,097 harvested in 2024. Marion County ranked fifth in the state with 135.

Youth hunters with an unfilled, valid youth deer permit may still hunt with the permit during the upcoming firearm deer seasons of November 21-23 and December 4-7. This is the first year that unfilled youth permits are valid for both segments of the firearm season.

This past season, Champaign County harvested 17, Douglas County had 19, Vermilion County had 32, and McLean County had 42.
