SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Illinois will join states across the nation in celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps on Monday, November 10, with a traditional cake-cutting ceremony at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield.

Hosted by the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, the event will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and is open to all Marines, past and present.

“This is a special recognition of the Marines’ core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment, which they demonstrate in service to our nation,” said IDVA Director Terry Prince.

The ceremony is part of a nationwide initiative led by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation to mark the milestone in every state. A custom-made cake, provided by Illinois-based Turano Bakery Company and donated through the American Bakers Association, will be featured in the event’s traditional cake-cutting.
