CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The Champaign Police Department is investigating two separate shooting incidents that occurred in the overnight hours of November 16 and 17, 2025. One of the incidents is being treated as a homicide, while the other involves a shooting with injuries. The two incidents are being investigated separately, as there is no indication they are related at this time.

On November 16, at approximately 6:04 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of Colleen Drive following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a 24-year-old Champaign man with multiple life-threatening injuries. Despite immediate life-saving measures, the man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Police believe the victim was shot shortly after leaving his apartment, though the motive remains unclear.

Hours later, on November 17, at approximately 2:35 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at the 700 block of N. Elm Street. Officers found a resident with multiple potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds to his legs. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition. Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was shot after answering a late-night knock at the door, though police have not identified a suspect.

The Champaign Police Department is actively canvassing the areas surrounding both shooting scenes in search of witnesses and video footage that could assist in the investigations. No arrests have been made, and authorities continue to seek information from the public. Residents with surveillance cameras or relevant information are encouraged to contact the Champaign Police at 217-351-4545, or submit anonymous tips via Crime Stoppers at 217-373-TIPS or through the P3 Tips mobile app.

The police department has also emphasized that information submitted to Crime Stoppers remains completely anonymous, with rewards of up to $5,000 for tips leading to arrests in homicide cases.
