CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The 25th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Countywide Celebration will be held on January 18, 2026. The event celebrates the legacy of Dr. King and the ongoing efforts of individuals and organizations in Champaign County who are embodying his vision of justice, equality, and service.

The 25th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Countywide Celebration will be held on January 18, 2026. The event celebrates the legacy of Dr. King and the ongoing efforts of individuals and organizations in Champaign County who are embodying his vision of justice, equality, and service. The event is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend as the community comes together to recognize those who are actively shaping a brighter future for our community. The organizers of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Countywide Celebration are inviting the public to submit nominations for three distinguished community awards, including:

  • James R. Burgess, Jr./Susan Freiburg Humanitarian Award – An award honoring the humanitarian efforts of individuals who contribute to the basic human dignity of those in need.
  • Doris Hoskins Prestigious Community Service Award – An award honoring individuals who engage in improving the well-being of Champaign County.
  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Outstanding Achievement Award – An award honoring individuals or organizations that work for social justice in the spirit of Dr. King. The principles of justice that Dr. King espoused include promoting equal rights for all persons regardless of race, religion, economic status, or physical and mental ability.
