CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Champaign’s tourism economy is getting a major lift with the long-awaited arrival of the Graduate by Hilton hotel, now officially moving forward in downtown Champaign. The seven-story, 144-room property will bring a premium, collegiate-themed lodging experience to the city, steps away from restaurants, nightlife, and the University of Illinois.

Local leaders including Doug Altenberger, TJ Blakeman, and Bruce Knight helped move the project across the finish line, securing what officials say will be one of the most impactful hospitality investments in the city’s recent history. The hotel will include full-service amenities, meeting space, and an expanded restaurant concept designed to attract visiting alumni, business travelers, and university-related guests.

Tourism officials say the development will strengthen the region’s position as a Big Ten destination, joining 12 other Graduate locations in major university communities nationwide. They expect the project to drive new visitor spending, support local shops and restaurants, and create jobs across hospitality, food service, and operations.

The Graduate is slated to open in late summer 2027, adding much-needed lodging and event capacity to a rapidly growing downtown.
