CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Salvation Army Corps Community Centers and 360 Life Centers across North and Central Illinois will operate as warming centers this week as temperatures dip to below zero degrees. A blast of Arctic air is pushing into the region, resulting in single-digit highs and sub-zero lows. Wind chills are expected to reach -40 degrees Fahrenheit, meaning frostbite could occur in minutes.

Salvation Army says that helping the community through efforts like warming shelters is a core expression of its commitment to caring for people in times of need.

“At the heart of this work is a belief that no one should be left alone or exposed to danger simply because they lack resources, stability, or a safe place to go,” their press release said.

The following North and Central Illinois Salvation Army locations will open their doors to individuals looking to escape the cold and will provide a safe place to gather during this weather advisory.

  • Hours – Open 24 / 7.
