CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning us that we can expect heavy thunderstorms this afternoon and evening for the Chambana area.  They say some of the storms could be strong to severe with gusty winds and hail.  Rain chances remain through Wednesday but start to dissipate as we get closer to Friday, making it a perfect day for the second leg of the 2024 Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Here’s what to expect each day from the National Weather Service. 

TODAY:  A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. South wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.

TONIGHT: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. South wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

WEDNESDAY: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1pm and 4pm, then a slight chance of showers after 4pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. West northwest wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 63. West southwest wind 7 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 16 mph.

THURSDAY: Sunny, with a high near 79. West northwest wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Clear, with a low around 57. West northwest wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.

FRIDAY: Sunny, with a high near 76. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear, with a low around 58.
