URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — A 27-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a series of burglaries at the same apartment complex in Urbana.
According to the Urbana Police Department, officers first received a report of a residential burglary on Jan. 27 at a complex in the 1000 block of West University Avenue. Over the following weeks, six additional incidents involving residential burglary and unlawful use of a credit card were reported at the same location.
Police arrested Elizabeth Gaw on Feb. 20 in connection with incidents that occurred Feb. 3. Detective Lt. David Roesch said investigators developed probable cause to link her to five of the cases.
The Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office formally charged Gaw with residential burglary after reviewing the arrest report. She has also been charged with unlawful use of a credit card.
In court Monday, Gaw entered a plea of not guilty and requested a jury trial. A pretrial detention hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Gaw is also facing a separate case involving three additional burglary counts stemming from Jan. 30. A preliminary hearing in that case is set for March 12.
Police are reminding residents to keep apartment doors locked at all times, even in secured buildings.
