URBANA, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY) – Champaign County Sheriff Dustin Heuerman has released his 2023 Annual Report
for the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office. This annual report, published since his first year in
office, provides statistics and other highlights from the Sheriff’s Office in the previous year.

Some highlights include:

• Calls for service up slightly – from 14,469 in 2022 to 14,591 in 2023.
• Sheriff’s Office arrests increased in 2023 (576 compared to 558 in 2022), as did the
number of Notices to Appear issued (170 compared to 148 in 2022).
• Sheriff’s deputies conducted 2,967 traffic stops, resulting in 1,965 citations and 1,586
warnings.
• Sheriff’s deputies investigated 407 traffic accidents, down from 505 in 2022, including
132 with injuries and 2 with fatalities.
• Shooting incidents investigated by Sheriff’s deputies were down significantly, from 16 in
2022 to 13 in 2023.
• Jail intakes increased in 2023, from 4,168 in 2022 to 4,503 in 2023.
• The average daily jail population decreased in 2023, from 320 in 2022 to 302 in 2023.
