CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Leadership changes are coming to Champaign Unit 4 School District as the district prepares for a new superintendent.

Board President Tony Bruno said the district is restructuring the superintendent’s cabinet to better align operations around student success, accountability and support for schools.

The move comes as incoming superintendent Geovanny Ponce prepares to take over leadership of the district. The changes will result in a smaller executive leadership team with more clearly defined responsibilities in areas such as academic achievement, school leadership, student support services, finances, staffing and community engagement.

District officials emphasized that current cabinet members are not being laid off. Instead, administrators with tenure will be reassigned to positions consistent with their certifications in accordance with Illinois law and district policy.

Ponce notified cabinet staff about the planned restructuring on Thursday, with the support of the school board. Current cabinet members have also been encouraged to apply for the new leadership positions as the district finalizes the updated structure.
