CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Wayne E. Folsom Jr, 75, of Champaign passed away early morning on June 10, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on December 3, 1948, in Vincennes, Indiana the son of Wayne and Audrey (Daugherity) Folsom Sr. He married Nancy Davis on February 3, 1968, in Urbana, IL. Wayne is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons-Wayne E. Folsom III of Champaign, Jonathan S. Folsom of Peoria, David B. Folsom of Clinton, Nathan E. Folsom of Urbana; 17 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren. He is preceded by his parents and Grandson- Mychael B. Folsom.
Wayne was automotive body man for 25 years before serving as the C-U Mac Tools distributor for 15 years. He started the company FastGlass, where he constructed personal fiberglass aircraft and co-founded the Illini Skyriders ultralight flying club. An entrepreneur, inventor, adventurer, and lover of all things fast, Wayne enjoyed pushing the limits of cars, motorcycles, and aircraft alike. He was always learning and creating, but also had a keen interest in teaching others, including some of his vehicle’s manufacturers.
He enjoyed travel with Nancy and his friends (particularly by motorcycle) all over the country, intricate woodworking, and cave spelunking. He was an aircraft owner and belonged to Experimental Aircraft Association and Pilots Association.
A Celebration of life reception will be held on Monday June 17th, 2024, from 4-6 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 Philo Road, Urbana, IL 61802. A time to share memories will start at 6 p.m. Hank Sanford will be officiating. Condolences may be sent at www.renner-wikoffchapel.com.
