CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign Fire Department sprang into action on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 6:03 p.m., responding to a working fire in the 1100 block of North Champaign St. Upon arrival, fire crews were met with a scene straight out of an action movie: smoke and flames were billowing from a detached garage, a car, and a pile of rubbish behind a residence. Without missing a beat, the team deployed multiple hose lines and swiftly extinguished the blaze. Thanks to their quick response, the fire was contained to the property of origin.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fortunately, no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The Champaign Fire Department wants to remind residents of the importance of having working smoke detectors in all areas of the house.
