CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Petros Kyprianou, the Director of Illinois track, field, and cross country, announced on Monday (July 1) the recruitment of Kristine Blazevica from Texas. Blazevica recently earned All-American status in the heptathlon at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships, finishing third with 6,126 points.

This marks her seventh All-America accolade, having secured four in the indoor pentathlon and three in the outdoor heptathlon. Her personal records in the heptathlon (6,146 points) and pentathlon (4,430 points) surpass the program records by over 300 points.

Originally from Riga, Latvia, Blazevica has competed for the University of Texas for the last four seasons and has chosen to conclude her collegiate career at the University of Illinois. A seven-time All-American and Big 12 Champion in combined events, she will join fellow athletes Eliza Kraule from Rice, Rafael Raap from Oregon, and newcomer JaiCieonna Gero-Holt in the combined events group.
