Philo Township, IL (Chambana Today) –  On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, around 2:09pm, Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Marathon business at 102 S. Lincoln in Philo due to a homeless person causing issues for the clerk. The subject had left the business and was walking along the railroad tracks. Deputies spotted the subject, but before they could approach him, he was struck by a passing train and pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office are conducting an ongoing investigation, and the subject’s name is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
