CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign Police Department has announced a partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and over 200 local law enforcement agencies to intensify enforcement actions throughout Illinois to curb speeding. During July, drivers should anticipate more frequent patrols targeting speeders and other traffic infractions.
“Speeding causes unnecessary danger on our roads, and puts drivers, passengers, and others sharing the roadway at increased risk,” says Police Chief Timothy T. Tyler. “Champaign Police remind drivers to obey the posted speeds and to ensure that everyone gets home safely.”
The campaign for speeding enforcement will feature conspicuous monitoring of speed limits to decelerate traffic and enhance safety. Motorists caught speeding or committing other traffic offenses will receive citations or written warnings as deemed appropriate. The campaign will particularly target major thoroughfares in Champaign, focusing on areas affecting residential neighborhoods.
This initiative is supported by federal traffic safety funds provided by IDOT.
