CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign County Coroner’s office (CCCO) has confirmed the death of a two-year-old Champaign resident on Monday in what his office is calling an “apparent drowning.”

Coroner Stephen E. Thuney said the child went missing from his mother around 3 p.m. He was found a short time later in a pond by a family member near the Carisbrook Apartments in Champaign.

Thuney said an autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday. Our newsroom has placed calls to the Coroner’s Office; the investigation continues to be under investigation by the CCCO and the Champaign Police Department.
