PESOTUM, IL (Chambana Today) – Illinois State Police Troop 7 concluded a special distracted driving enforcement effort in April across Champaign, Macon, and Vermilion counties, resulting in 60 citations specifically for phone and texting violations.

The month-long campaign aimed to reduce serious crashes by giving officers additional patrol resources to enforce distracted driving laws. Troop 7 reported 57 citations for hand-held phone use and three for texting while driving. Overall, 106 citations were issued, along with six written warnings for various traffic violations.
Troop 7 Captain Heather Apperson highlighted that the enforcement initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and was funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
