CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Healthy Champaign County will host the first annual Active Living Week from Saturday, May 2 through Saturday, May 9, offering free activities across the county designed to encourage movement for all ages, interests, and ability levels.

Each day of the week features at least one free event, ranging from yoga and tai chi to pickleball, bird watching, ice skating, and boat rentals. Attendees at any event can pick up a swag bag at the HCC table while supplies last and enter to win raffle prizes donated by local organizations including Body N’ Sole Sports, Dick’s House of Sport, and the Champaign and Urbana Park Districts.

The week kicks off Saturday, May 2, with the Morrissey Park parkrun, a free weekly timed 5K held at 9 a.m. Other highlights include a Sunday morning bird walk at Anita Purves Nature Center, free ice skating at the University of Illinois Ice Arena for the first 30 attendees, introductory yoga sessions, a tai chi class focused on arthritis and fall prevention, drop-in pickleball, a 55-plus indoor walk, and free boat rentals at Crystal Lake Park for the first 20 attendees on the final day.

The event is sponsored by Healthy Champaign County with support from the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District, Illinois Extension, OSF Healthcare, University of Illinois Campus Rec, Urbana Park District, and several other local partners.
