CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — A Champaign man is in custody following a midday shooting on Friday that left a 28-year-old man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Champaign Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of Providence Circle at 12:33 p.m. on May 23 after receiving a report of a shooting with injuries. Officers located the victim, who had been struck by gunfire, and immediately began administering emergency medical aid with assistance from the Champaign Fire Department. The victim was transported to an area hospital and is in stable condition.
Investigators determined that the shooting occurred in the 1400 block of Summit Ridge Road, where the victim encountered 27-year-old Travon Brize. The two became involved in an argument, during which Brize is alleged to have produced a weapon and fired, striking the victim. The victim fled the area and called 911, and was located by officers several blocks away on Providence Circle. Brize was arrested a short time later in the 1400 block of Summit Ridge Road.
The investigation remains ongoing. Officers are continuing to canvass the area for witnesses and surveillance footage. Residents and businesses with exterior cameras in the area are encouraged to contact police.
