DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) – A Danville teenager is under arrest after police said he led officers on a high-speed chase in a car that had been identified from a shots-fired incident.

The events that led to the arrest started around 8:47 p.m. on August 21, when officers were dispatched to the area of Buchannan St. and Bryan Ave. for reported gunfire. Officers found a home and a car in the area had been hit by bullets, but no one was hurt.

While they were investigating, officers learned a black Ford Fusion was involved in the incident. Thirty minutes later, at 9:18 p.m., Danville Police located a black Ford Fusion at South and Park St.  just blocks away from the scene.

When officers tried to pull the Fusion over, officials said the driver refused to stop and a chase began. During that chase, officers saw a gun get thrown out of the Fusion’s window. The gun was recovered as evidence.

The chase ended when the driver of the fusion hit a tree in the area of Fowler Ave. and Fairchild St.  The 17-year-old driver was taken into custody and has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest.

Officials added that there was a passenger in the car, a 24-year-old man, who was released at the scene of the crash.
