DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) – Green Island, the oldest restaurant in downtown Danville, has proudly been awarded a $5,000 grant from Downtown Danville Inc. This grant, aimed at supporting and rejuvenating local businesses, has enabled significant upgrades to the restaurant.
Located at 11 N. Vermilion St., just next to the Vermilion County Courthouse, Green Island utilized the grant to implement major interior and exterior improvements. Owners Daisy and Kenneth Liu used the funds to repair the roof, repaint the building’s exterior, and revitalize the dining room.
Daisy and Kenneth Liu established Green Island in August 2004, and this year marks their 20th anniversary of dedicated service to the Danville community. Their perseverance and commitment were recognized with the Legacy Award from the Small Business Development Center at Danville Area Community College (DACC), honoring their longstanding contributions to the local economy.
The Downtown Danville Inc. Grant Program, funded by contributions from property owners in the Special Service Area Number One district, aims to empower local businesses. The program matches investments up to $5,000 for property improvements, aiding the ongoing revitalization of the downtown area. According to Annie Monyok, Executive Director of Downtown Danville Inc., “We’re committed to helping our members enhance their businesses and continue the revitalization of our downtown area. It’s exciting to see businesses like Green Island continue to thrive and reinvest with stunning renovations.”
