CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – The Champaign Police Department (CPD) responded to a shooting with injuries at 5:13 a.m. on August 24 in the 1400 block of N. Market St. When police arrived, officers found a 17-year-old Champaign man with a life-threatening gunshot wound. CPD and the Champaign Fire Department rendered immediate medical aid and he was transported to an area hospital. He remains hospitalized in serious condition.
The initial investigation indicates that the man was walking along Market St. when he heard several gunshots before realizing that he had been wounded. CPD investigators continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
